My name is Jodie Marley, and I am a qualified proofreader based in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. I carried out my training with two highly respected organisations, the Publishing Training Centre (PTC) and the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), now the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). I have experience of working with both publishers and businesses, proofreading a variety of material including non-fiction, fiction, and marketing materials such as brochures and technical detailers.
My background is in veterinary medicine. I qualified from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh in 1998, and worked as a small animal veterinary surgeon in practices in Derby and Oxford, before taking a break to start a family and relocate to Wales. After having my children I returned to work as a part-time locum, before deciding to change career so that I could work from home.
Due to my background, I am comfortable proofreading veterinary and biomedical material. My other interests (apart from reading a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction) include gardening, keeping chickens, history, cookery, and nature. However, I am happy to work on many different topics, so please contact me to discuss your subject area. My aim is to provide you with the best possible service, so I will let you know if I don’t feel I have sufficient knowledge of your subject to give you the standard of service I would like.
